European Law Group

The European Law Group (ELG) is a network of civil, corporate and commercial law firms, established in 1983. As of 2012, the ELG legal network had member law firms in 14 countries throughout Europe: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, Spain, Switzerland and the UK.
ELG aims to develop close working associations throughout Europe and to utilize its international connections to ensure that cross border transactions are managed seamlessly. Another goal is to ensure that any client requiring advice in any other member country, can receive it by swift and simultaneous referral.
The focus for ELG has been to assist clients in their increasing demands for cross border legal services in Europe whether this is as part of a cross border merger or acquisition or simply wishing to know more about the legal framework existing in a particular country.
As a non exclusive association of law firms practicing in Western Europe, particularly the countries of the European Union, ELG claims to be committed to provide its clients with legal advisers who understand their needs and can deliver the appropriate advice within their timescale and budget.
The ELG plenum convenes twice a year, on a rotating basis in each of the member countries. The ELG sub-groups, which concentrate on specific branches of the law, convene periodically and enable middle-level partners and associates to exchange information and opinions in their fields of expertise. ELG member firms also exchange junior associate lawyers on an ad hoc basis, for periods of 1–2 months and engage in other professional enrichment activities.
